"Bibby" Gardner, the senior netballers Simone Forbes and Elaine Davis,
sprinter Sherone Simpson and national waterpolo player Marlon McIntyre are the
five nominees vying for the Courtney Walsh Award for Excellence and a cash
grant of half a million dollars.The announcement will be made at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel next Wednesday October 17. The award, which is in its third year, was instituted to formally recognise the achievements of outstanding sportsman Courtney Walsh and is the brainchild of former Prime Minister P.J. Patterson. The first recipient of the award was cricketer Jimmy Adams in 2005. The second awardee was hurdler and 1996 Olympic gold medalist, Deon Hemmings-McCatty. |
