Following lengthy negotiations, maintenance workers at
Air Jamaica
signed off on a new wage contract with the airline's management Thursday. Some 200 workers including ground staff, mechanics and supervisors will be affected by the new 14% wage deal. National Workers Union President, Granville Valentine, says despite not being pleased with the new deal, the workers had no choice but to sign the contract following several talks. He says the union is however treating the new contract which expires next year, as an interim one. Had a meeting where we signed off on the 14% wage increase effective July 1 through to November 2009. That is not the position we were looking for initially based on the circumstances this was the last mandate given by the workers," said Mr. Valentine. |
