Another Caribbean island could soon be added to a list of
countries requiring visas to enter Britain. The authorities in Britain have included Trinidad and Tobago on a list of 10 other countries who have been warned that their citizens will need visas to visit the UK, unless they significantly reduce the risk they pose. The other countries are Brazil, Namibia, South Africa, Malaysia, Venezuela, Bolivia, Botswana, Lesotho, Mauritius and Swaziland. A Home Office report identifies bogus passports, criminal acts and terrorism as possible risks posed by visitors. It is understood that the visa requirements could become law early next year. The criteria for the Home Office's Visa Waiver Test included looking at passport security and integrity; the degree of co-operation over deportation or the removal of a country's nationals from the UK. In a move believed to be aimed at clamping down on drug smuggling, the British Home Office imposed visa restrictions in 2002 on Jamaicans travelling to Britain. |
