St. Ann Parish Council workers on strike PDF Print
Wednesday, 25 June 2008
Workers at the St. Ann Parish Council are on strike.

The workers who are represented by the Bustamante Industrial Trade Union (BITU) walked off the job Wednesday morning to protest against a number of issues.

The BITU's Assistant Island Supervisor George Nicholas told RJR News that the workers are owed several allowances.

"The issues include tailoring allowance owed to some workers since 2007, night premiums, meal and traveling allowances owed to watchmen and traveling expenses for some workers who travel from one market to another," he said.

Mr. Nicholas said a 28-day ultimatum was served on the management of the Parish Council on May 21st and expired on June 17th.
