Image  Air Jamaica workers have reportedly given in and agreed to accept the 14% wage increase being offered by the airline's management.

Our news centre has been informed that following a split among some groups of workers over the proposed package it has been decided that it would in their best interest to take the offer.

The worker's position will be relayed to Air Jamaica's management at a meeting scheduled for 1 o'clock.

It is reported that consensus has been reached for the workers to request a top up in salaries following the sale of the airline early next year.

Air Jamaica's management has reportedly indicated that the 14% increase which will be retroactive to 2006 is non-negotiable.

Airline executives and trade union representatives are expected to sign off on an agreement Tuesday afternoon.

Vice-President of the National Workers Union, Granville Valentine, said the workers remain extremely disgruntled over the airline's stance regarding their request for a pay increase.

"The offer is just for salary and the attitude is a ‘take it or leave it' one and the workers are very upset, many of them flatly reject the position,"

"We met with workers over the weekend and yesterday and we are still meeting with the workers before one o'clock today to see how best we can reach to a final decision because there are strong mixed reactions that we are facing right now," he said.

Only some categories of workers will benefit from the wage package which takes effect on July One.

The list comprises ground staff, flight attendants and mechanics.
