Prime Minister Bruce Golding has defended the anti-gay
comments he made on a BBC Programme which stirred controversy in Jamaica.Critics accused the Prime Minister of discrimination and homophobia after he said on the BBC'S ‘Hard Talk' programme that he would not allow any homosexuals in his Cabinet, even if he or she is suitably qualified. Mr. Golding defended the comments during Tuesday's sitting of Parliament as he outlined the new anti-crime strategies. "One of the things that informed my own position in terms of that debate is that I believe what has damaged this country more than anything else is the erosion and the collapse of the family unit. Therefore I make no apology, not here, not anywhere else, when I say that anything that I regard as contradictory to the foundation of that family unit is not something that will ever sit comfortably with me," he said. |
