Well known dancehall artiste Mavado has been freed of
gun-related charges. The entertainer whose real name is David Brooks was released in the Gun Court Thursday morning after government prosecutors dropped the charges. Mavado was facing charges of shooting with intent and illegal possession of a firearm. Co-accused Sameer Coombs was also freed today. Defence attorney at Law Tom Tavares Finson who represented Mavado told RJR News that a nolle prosequi was entered by prosecutors because the main witnesses failed to show. Mavado was charged earlier this year in connection with a shooting incident in July last year. It was alleged that Mavado and Coombs were among a group of men who fired shots on the complainant and his brother along Manning Hills Road, in St Andrew. Mr. Coombs was charged shortly after the incident but Mavado was not charged until March this year. Following his arrest, the United States (US) Embassy cancelled his visa blocking him from performing in that country. Mr. Finson told our news centre that Mavado's management will be applying to the US Embassy to renew his visa. |
