Suriname
and Guyana
have signed an anti-crime agreement to ensure greater cooperation among law
enforcement officials from the two CARICOM countries. The so-called 'Nieuw-Nickerie Declaration' was signed at the end of a one-day meeting between Suriname Justice and Police Minister Chandrikapersad Santokhi and Guyana's Home Affairs Minister Clement Rohee. Both countries have agreed to step up their cooperation to deal with crime and security. The new accord will cover areas such as transnational crime, money-laundering, trafficking of illegal firearms and drugs, smuggling, trafficking in persons, piracy and violent crimes. |
