Flying Squad detectives are urging members of the public
to be extremely cautious when approached by men and women claiming to be plain
clothed members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force. The advisory follows Thursday night's reported shooting in Vineyard Town, involving members of the Flying Squad and armed men. One man was shot and killed and his accomplice held. According to police reports about nine o'clock that night Flying Squad detectives patrolling Vineyard Town, signalled the driver of a black Nissan motor car to stop. Two men reportedly ran from the car and allegedly opened fire at the police. During the reported exchange one of them was hit. The car sped away and one of the men was later nabbed by the police on the roof of a house in the community. Investigators said a pistol and two rounds were seized. They are following leads that the men had planned to rob a businessman. The men were planning to impersonate police detectives. Flying Squad personnel are urging members of the public to request identification when confronted by men or women claiming to be detectives. If suspicious, members of the public should call the nearest police station, 119 of Kingfish. Investigators are also asking anyone with any information on the black Nissan in which the men were travelling to call Flying Squad at 922-2373, 922-7322 or Kingfish or 119. A police source revealed that the pistol has been traced to a licensed firearm holder. |
