The police are to continue their questioning Monday of a
suspect held in connection with the murder of a mini-bus driver at the entrance
of the Kingston Central Police Station on the weekend. Everton Salkey, 46, was shot dead while trying to seek refuge at the Station. It was reported that shortly after 9pm Saturday, Mr. Salkey was driving a Hiace bus with passengers from Papine to Downtown Kingston when three men, one armed with a gun and the other two with knives, began robbing the passengers. On reaching the Kingston Central Police Station, Mr. Salkey attempted to turn into the station but was shot. Quick action by police personnel at the Station led to the capture of one of the robbers. Commanding Officer for the Kingston Central Police Division Deputy Superintendent Millicent Sproul-Thomas told RJR News that the suspect has been identified as one of the robbers. The robbers are said to be from Barbican in St. Andrew. The police have launched a manhunt for the other two suspects. |
