One of the
unions representing Air Jamaica
workers is recommending that benefits contained in the third public sector Memorandum
of Understanding (MOU 3) be extended to the airline's employees.Vice-President of the National Workers Union Granville Valentine believes this interim measure could end the industrial unrest at the national airline. "The Government has signed an MOU, that MOU represents what the government says they can pay the public sector workers in government entities ... Air Jamaica is a quasi government entity that falls squarely under the MOU, more so, the Ministry of Finance has the responsibility to oversee Air Jamaica, to make it even stronger and they're the ones responsible for the MOU." Air Jamaica's management has stated that it cannot enter into a new wage contract due to the airline's financial problems. |
