In light of significant increases in the price of
fertiliser, Agriculture Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton has announced plans to
conduct an audit. The audit will determine whether fertiliser is being sold at a fair price. Dr. Tufton said he is concerned about reports that farmers are being forced to pay exorbitant prices for fertiliser. While concerned about the hike in the price of fertiliser, the minister was careful to avoid committing to any form of subsidy. He promised that farmers would soon have access to price quotes from major distributors and retailers. Dr. Tufton pointed to the fact that his Ministry had removed all import duties on materials used to produce fertiliser. He said this is aimed at keeping prices low. |
