Former Chairman
of the Public Health Committee in St. Catherine Dr. Raymoth Notice said the Old
Harbour Bay Fishing complex should be closed until the unsanitary conditions
are fully addressed. His recommendation comes on the heels of a damning report which painted a picture of unhealthiness at the facility. On Thursday, the Parish Council ordered an immediate investigation into unhealthy conditions at the fishing beach after a two page report revealed that none of the 600 users of the beach had a food handler's permit. Additionally, none of the 17 food establishments was licensed while the storage of raw fish is reportedly unhygienic along with poor disposal of garbage. Mayor of Spanish Town, Dr. Andrew Wheatley has mandated the Commercial Services Department of the Council to look into the issue. |
