Commuters began paying more to travel on route taxis
Saturday.Fares went up by 25% despite taxi operators clamouring for a higher increase. Spokesman for the Ministry of Transport Reginald Allen told RJR News that the Transport Authority has published the new fare table. He disclosed that there will be a public education drive to inform commuters of the new fares structure. "It was $44 dollars for the fist three kilometers and that has been raised to $55 but they have been charging $50, so I suspect that they will be rounding off that $55 to $60," he said. The fare hike was announced last week by Transport Minister Mike Henry. Taxi operators later agreed not to press for further increases until more talks are held. |
