Image  Instructions have been issued for the Jamaica Constabulary Force to immediately fast track its recruitment of personnel.

Acting Minister of National Security Senator Dwight Nelson said the move will complement the latest measures implemented by the Government to tackle the worsening crime problem.

He said the Government will be acting speedily to address the needs of the Police Force.

"This is one aspect of the operational efficiency that we're addressing ... we have to fast track augmenting the resources of the Force both in terms of personnel and technical equipment," said Mr. Nelson.

A year ago, then Minister of National Security Dr. Peter Phillips revealed plans to recruit an additional 3,500 officers to the Police Force by this year.

Hot spots

Minister Without Portfolio in the Ministry of Finance Dwight Nelson.  Senator Nelson has listed some of the hot spots the police will be targeting under their latest anti-crime initiative.

He said some of these hot spots are East Kingston, certain parts of St. Catherine, Central Kingston, August Town, Southeast Clarendon and Lionel Town, Rocky Point.

"We're going to be targeting these areas which we have labeled hotspots to zero in on the criminals and their activities."

Following a high-level meeting involving the Prime Minister on Thursday, it was announced that there will be an intensification of the police military task force established last December.

Additionally, there will be an increase in police presence in all communities and a zero-tolerance approach to minor offences including noise nuisance, ganja possession and traffic violations.
