Jagdeo administration to ease the pressure on public sector workers PDF Print
Thursday, 08 May 2008
The Guyanese government has announced several measures to cushion the immediate impact of world market prices on consumers.

President Bharrat Jagdeo said his administration would unveil a package that would see the price of flour-based products remaining constant.

He said approval has been granted for the immediate payment of the across-the-board salary hike.

"This initiative will see a temporary adjustment of $4,000 per month, free of income tax, paid in the months of May to December 2008 to government employees," he said.

"That is public servants, teachers, nurses and members of the discipline services whose basic monthly salary is $50,000 or less based on April 2008 salaries after taking into account the 5% increase across the board," he continued.

He said the measures would be reviewed at the end of the year.
