The Government
could be forced to provide further assistance to Jamaicans who are now faced
with another year of double digit inflation. During RJR 94FM's current affairs discussion programme Beyond the Headlines on Wednesday, Economist Dr. Davidson Daway said with inflation projected to reach 14% during the 2008/2009 Financial Year, the Golding administration will likely be called on to alleviate the effects of the increase in the cost of living. Dr. Daway said this will require a major intervention. He said the present economic landscape has resulted in consumers not being able to take care of their households as they do not have the money necessary for spending. "That's where the problem stems, the government has to create some kind of immediate intervention that will alleviate the kind of burden that the consumer is going to feel," said Dr. Daway. |
