Following a
series of delays, the Ministry of Finance is this week expected to resume
accepting bids for the public sector health insurance scheme.Minister Without Portfolio in the Ministry of Finance Senator Dwight Nelson said the way is now clear for the submission of new tenders. "The technical persons in my Ministry have been putting the request for proposals together and I suspect that within a matter of days, we will advertise." The health scheme has been at the centre of controversy since the middle of last year when it was revealed that Life of Jamaica would replace Blue Cross as the service provider for the government's health insurance programme for civil servants. Although the change would have saved the country $100 million, trade union officials expressed anger that they were not consulted. |
