Schools
across Jamaica account for nearly half a billion of the Jamaica Public Service
annual revenue. This was disclosed by Education Minister Andrew Holness on Friday as he commissioned into operation a solar energy system at the Irwin High School in St. James. According to Mr. Holness, each school pays an average of $150,000 per month. However he noted that since Irwin began operating its solar electricity system its monthly bill has been reduced by a third. The Education Minister said he is committed to implementing this system in high schools within the next year. He announced that he is in dialogue with a United States firm towards the implementation of the project. In the meantime, the Minister lauded the school's principal Aldin Bellanfantie as the project was his brainchild. The system contains 48 panels capable of generating 26 Kilowatt hours per day. |
