St.
Lucia's Prime Minister Stephenson King is
apparently facing a major rebellion in his government with at least two elected
Members of Parliament calling on him to fire his economic planning minister. One of those calling for the removal of the Economic Minister is former Foreign Affairs Minister Rufus Bousquet. Mr. Bousquet described Prime minister King as a disappointment and called for a change of the direction of the government towards more social programmes to deal with the needs of the people rather than an administration driven by persons whom he said had not faced the electorate. Among those he named are Economic Planning Minister Ausbert d'Auvergne and Tourism Minister, Allen Chastanet, both of whom are government Senators. "I have the endorsement of the people of this country, but I'm not taking responsibility for what the government is doing, when it's being driven by persons who have never faced this electorate ... I think it's about time that the Prime Minister act and bring stability to his government by getting rid of Mr. Duvet, corralling Mr. Chastanet," said Mr. Bousquet. He has also accusing Mr. King of abdicating his responsibilities as he struggles to cope with the Ministries of Home Affair, Foreign Affairs and Finance. |
