Integrity needed in Public Office Act PDF Print
Friday, 02 May 2008
Image  Hundreds of Dominicans participated in a candlelight vigil Wednesday evening demanding that the government implement Integrity in Public Office Act.

The Act was passed in parliament in 2003.

Two former Attorneys-General and a former deputy Speaker of Parliament were among those who addressed the three-hour event.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit announced earlier this week that the Act's implementation would be catered for in the national budget expected to be presented within the next few months.

One of Mr. Skerrit's advisers, attorney Anthony Astaphan denounced the vigil as being politically motivated.

Mr. Astaphan said that he too wants to see the act implemented, but is aware of the difficulties the government has faced in that regard.
