Wage negotiations between the Alumina Partners of Jamaica
(ALPART) in St. Elizabeth and the National Workers Union (NWU) have broken
down. The NWU served a 72 hour strike notice on the company on Tuesday afternoon. Both entities placed several offers on the table with the main bone of contention being a wage settlement. The NWU had suggested a three year contract with a breakdown of 30% in the first year, 20 in the second and 10 in the third. However, RJR News was told that the ALPART said it could not go beyond a three year wage contract of 9% - in year one - then 7 and 6% respectively in years two and three. |
