There is still no breakthrough in an impasse between the Aruban
government and public sector unions in the country. Union members have caused widespread disruptions during the coordinated strike action that has been going on for seven weeks. But the unions are now admitting that their nearly two month old strike action is causing serious disruption as hundreds of children have remained at home while only those taking exams have been taught. The unions said public servants have been waiting seven years for the government to address their pay concerns and grant them cost of living adjustments. They said they were not prepared to wait any longer. |
