Sources in Jamaica said would-be bomber Kevin Brown is an
army veteran, who served in the US
military for several years.He is said to have been posted in Iraq then went to Korea and Germany. While the RJR News Centre has been unable to independently confirm this, sources said his wife from whom he is separated, is still enlisted in Korea. It is also reported that he lived in Atlanta for some time before moving to Fort Lauderdale. Close family friends said he had an upper-class upbringing, attending the prestigious Priory Prep school and later the boarding school at Knox College in Manchester. They remembered him as a soft, gentle young man who would not harm a fly. That is why they refute any claims that Brown is a terrorist or intended to harm anyone. He lived in Negril, Westmoreland for a period before he and his younger brother migrated to New York. Brown later joined the US Army, and it was not long before he was off serving in Iraq. Sources said he came back from war a changed person. But our news centre understands that things really started to go downhill for Kevin when his mother was murdered in 2005. Sandra McLeod, 52, was strangled at her hotel in Negril on June 2nd that year. Brown was said to be extremely close to her. He got married a day before her murder and was preparing to spend his honeymoon at her hotel the following Monday. But she was murdered before he ever got to Jamaica. He never really recovered, even though he returned to the US army for another term in Iraq. Friends believe the trauma of the war and his mother's horrific murder affected him mentally, to the point where his marriage disintegrated. He reportedly started a round of medical treatment two months ago. But it is still unclear how someone deemed to be a promising young man yesterday ended up sprawled on the tarmac of the Orlando International Airport under suspicion of terrorism. |
