The
Westmoreland Police were kept busy on Wednesday investigating the discovery of
skeletal remains and the murder of a popular soup vendor. The soup vendor has been identified as Robert Graham, also known as Bob, of Bullstrod in Grange Hill. The skeletal remains are believed to be those of 74-year-old retired farmer, David Irving of Three Miles River. The first incident occurred about 10:00 Tuesday night when residents heard explosions in the vicinity of Mr. Graham's house. This was shortly after he had returned home from selling soup and other items in the Grange Hill Square. Mr. Graham had sold soup in the community for more than 20 years. However it was about 6:00 Wednesday morning that passersby came upon his body on an adjacent property. His pockets were turned out and the body had bullet wounds. A freshly beaten path between his house and the spot where his hat was found indicated that he had fled from his attackers but was chased and killed. The police believe robbery was the motive. Meanwhile, Mr. Irving, who went to live in Three Miles River six months ago after suffering a stroke, was reported missing on February 25. Passersby stumbled upon skeletal remains which they believe to be his. Items of clothing at the scene were identified by family members. The police, while not suspecting foul play, are awaiting a post mortem report to determine the cause of death and if the remains are those of Mr. Irving. |
