The
conflict between Antigua and
Barbuda and flour-producing countries of the
Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) is expected to be resolved by
month-end.The CARICOM Secretariat scheduled a meeting on the re-negotiation of flour prices between the islands of the smaller grouping for March 31st. The meeting will be chaired by CARICOM Secretary General, Dr. Edwin Carrington. Representatives of the mills of St. Vincent and Grenada and from the Ministry of Finance of Antigua and Barbuda are expected to attend the talks. The meeting comes on the heels of the 24th Special Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) in the Bahamas on March five. At that meeting, it was also resolved that if no agreement is reached, Antigua and Barbuda will be allowed to import flour from outside the region in the medium developed countries. Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados and Guyana are being looked at as possible suppliers. |
