Chin and Colleen Wright appeared at the Corporate Area Criminal Court in Half
Way Tree St. Andrew on Wednesday for the the start of the state's case against them.All three arrived shortly before the start of court. Lead attorney Patrick Atkinson said he was informed that Director of Public Prosecutions Paula Llewelyn, who is marshalling the state's evidence, had indicated she would not be able to appear in court at the scheduled start time of 10 o'clock. She was participating in Wednesday morning's opening of the Circuit Court in Downtown Kingston and did not arrive at Half Way Tree until later Wednesday afternoon. The former Junior Minister along with his former secretary Colleen Wright and the other accused in the Cuban Light Bulb case, Rodney Chin were arrested and charged on February 26. The charges against them include conspiracy to defraud as well as breaches of the Money Laundering and Corruption Prevention Acts. Mr. Spencer and Mr. Chin are out on $10 million bail each, while Miss Wright is out on a $5 million bond. |
