Image After averting the fallow on early in the day the West Indies, set 437 to win the first Digicel test against Sri Lanka, were 96 for one at the close of the fourth day at the Guyana national stadium in Providence.

With captain Chris Gayle dropping down the order the West Indies lost Dwayne Smith for 10 to Chaminda Vaas.

However, Dwayne Bravo 46 and vice captain Ramnaresh Sarwan 34 took the home team to within 341 runs of victory entering Wednesday's final day.

Earlier resuming from an overnight 269 for nine, still needing another eight runs to avoid the fallow on West Indies added 11 runs before Darren Powell went for 12 dismissed by Thilan Thushara who finished with 3-59.

Jerome Taylor was left unbeaten on 27.

Sri Lanka with a first innings lead of 190 runs then declared.

Warnapurra made 62 and Samaraweera 56-not out.

Sulleman Benn took 3-59 and Dwayne Bravo 2-54.

Bravo and Sarwan's unbeaten second wicket stand of 74 then   gave the home team some hope of saving the game.
