Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago, preparing for
the 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign will renew their friendly rivalry on
Wednesday when they meet at the national stadium starting at seven. This will be the 18th friendly encounter between the two and the first since July 2000 when Jamaica tasted victory for the sixth time. The last time the teams meet in a friendly at the office was in 1997 when the Reggae Boyz had a 6-1 victory. Jamaica were also 2-1 winners when the team last meet, in the 2005 Digicel Cup in Barbados. This will be the second home coming game for returning technical director Rene Simoes, having earned a 1-all draw with Costa Rica in the first game in charge. One of 1998 World Cup heroes Deon Burton along with Luton Shelton, Demar Stewart, Khari Stepphenson and Oneil Thompsom who missed the Costa Rica game will be given a chance on Wednesday to display their talent for Simoes. Burton is delighted to be back in the programme. Twelve members of the local contingent which had a successful development tour of Brazil are also included. |
