A motion moved
by Councillor for the Prospect Division of the Portland Parish Council, Wayne
McKenzie resulted in political battle lines being drawn during the Council's
meeting on February 14th. Mr. McKenzie said the motion involved the declaration of Port Antonio as a 'Zero Tolerance' zone for garbage, derelict buildings and motor vehicles and other unsightly refuse. Although the motion was supported by the Mayor and the other People's National Party councilors, the six Jamaica Labour Party councillors refused to vote on the motion. Councillor McKenzie said he believed that their action was mainly political. The issue was sent to Minister responsible for local government Robert Montaque for his intervention. |
