The People's National Party (PNP) has appointed a member
of the National Executive Council (NEC) to oversee its North East St. Elizabeth
constituency. The decision came less than 24 hours after Member of Parliament for the area Kern Spencer, announced he would take leave from Parliament. Joseph Allen has been selected as interim chairman of the constituency. Mr. Allen is the constituency's representative on the NEC. He was selected on February 15th at a meeting called by Chairman of PNP Region Five Michael Peart, to discuss the way forward for the constituency. He told the RJR News Centre that the Party had also taken steps to maintain its presence in the constituency. "We've also appointed Donovan Pagan, Councillor for the Bridge River Division as the field coordinator, to ensure that the constituency remains strong, organized and fully mobilized for any eventualities," said Mr. Peart. In addition to his leave from Parliament, Mr. Spencer has given up all leadership positions he held in the PNP. For nearly four months, he has been at the centre of the scandal surrounding the Cuban Light Bulb Project. |
