Allegations of breaches in procedures of Local Government
procurement guidelines forced one member of the Westmoreland Parish Council to
issue a strong warning to his fellow Councillors. Councillor for the Grange Hill Division Lawton McKenzie accused his counterparts of giving unapproved contracts to persons in their respective divisions. Councillor McKenzie said this practice constituted a breach of the Council's By-Laws. While acknowledging that there were instances where Councillors are allowed to by-pass the provisions, he said there was evidence that a number of contracts were issued without the Council's approval. His warning was endorsed by Chairman of the Council, Bertel Moore. Last year, an audit of several parish councils revealed breaches in procurement guidelines. |
