The West Indies went down by
31 runs to Zimbabwe in their
first one day international in Harare,
despite a brilliant knock of 127 from Shivnarine Chanderpaul. They reached 243-8, chasing 275 for victory with, Chanderpaul receiving support from Runako Morton 54. The 33-year-old Chanderpaul compiled his innings from 138 balls. He struck 5 fours and 2 sixes in his 118-runs fourth-wicket partnership with Morton against, Zimbabwe's Elton Chigumbura, 3 for 24 and Justice Chibhabha 2 for 64. Chibhabha made 73 and Stuart Matsikenyeri 55 to lead the home side to 274 for 8. Chris Gayle took 2 for 35 runs while Dwayne Bravo's 2 for 39 and pacer Jerome Taylor's 2 for 68 off 10 overs were the most expensive. This was Zimbabwe's first win against major opposition since their test status was revoked. The second match will be played on Sunday at the same venue. |
