Screaming emerald clad
supporters, fingers splayed in the "V" sign and raised high, made the
atmosphere inside and outside the National Arena more like a concert with the
headline act being the new Jamaica Labour Party administration.A colourful scene of green, gold and black, blended with the triumphant atmosphere at the National Arena. Supporters descended on the National Arena in droves to lift their voices in a chorus of celebration of the party's victory in the September 3 polls. It is been seven weeks since the Jamaica Labour Party took over the mantle of governance. But the euphoria has not waned, that much was clear at Sunday's annual confab. It was an accomplishment that took 18 years to reach. A platform bedecked with the words in bold letters screamed the party's vision - Building A Better Jamaica. Hope for that better Jamaica spewed from the lips of ordinary supporters - who were also adorned in greenery. Promises of it came from the mouths of all the officers who spoke. Derrick Smith promising increased security, Audley Shaw improved economic fortunes and Horace Chang, a better way of life. The supporters soaked it all up. But they were all there for another reason. They are gearing up for another potential victory at the polls this time at the local government level. The leaders all appealed for support ahead of Nomination Day on Monday. |
