The deaths of four persons in St. Elizabeth have been
attributed to dengue fever. This was revealed by the Chief Medical Officer for the parish, Dr Derrick Ledford at a meeting of the Parish Council Thursday morning. However, he stated that the health department is waiting on results of two post mortems to determine if dengue fever was the actual cause of death. According to Dr. Ledford, he has received reports of over 50 cases believed to be dengue fever, but so far only four have been confirmed. The Chief Medical officer said the health department has started local vector control programmes in an effort to destroy breeding sites for mosquitoes. |
