![]() Senator Arthur Williams. The recent ruling of the Industrial Disputes Tribunal (IDT) in the Nurses Association of Jamaica (NAJ) dispute with the ministries of health and finance regarding the reclassification exercise is expected to be the main agenda item at the meeting. The IDT's ruling confirmed the government's position that the reclassification exercise was not solely for nurses, and if dealt with as a one-sectarian exercise would lead to unwanted industrial unrest in the health sector. Accordingly, all parties will be issued with bound copies of the reclassification document and will have an opportunity to review and thereafter make submissions. Nurses could take stronger action ![]() Edith Allwood-Anderson, NAJ President. The NAJ has summoned its members to an emergency meeting at 12:30pm to decide its next move. Members of the Association have been conducting a peaceful protest against the government's stance on the reclassification exercise by wearing black to work. And Edith Allwood-Anderson, NAJ President, is not ruling stronger action. "My members are exhausted ... we implemented the wearing black and I'm now aware that our nurses are no longer prepared to wait and do nothing so we'll see what happens," she said. |
