Concerns were raised at
Tuesday's sitting of Parliament's Special Select Committee reviewing the Casino
Gaming Bill. The concerns centred around the amount of revenue the country stands to earn when casino gaming is properly regulated. The matter was brought to the fore by Opposition committee member Phillip Paulwell who questioned whether or not the Ministry of Finance had done any estimates as to how much will be earned from taxes and special fees that will be implemented under the revised Bill. "The purpose of the casinos is really to enable jobs and enable revenues for the government so I think it's important for us to have some idea as to the magnitude of the revenues we're talking about and how we're going to manage this process so that the government gets what its due," he said. This query was shot down by Gregory Mair, Acting Chairman of the Committee who said that was not a concern of the committee. However, experts who were offering information to the committee said that steps were already being taken to research the possible revenue yield form Casino Gaming in the country. |
