Work teams from the National Works Agency (NWA) are carrying
out clearing exercises along several corridors in the parishes of Portland, St. Mary and
Trelawny. The roadways have been affected by landslides, fallen trees and flooding, resulting from persistent rainfall in the parishes over the last 24 hours. In Trelawny, the NWA is advising that the road from Duncans to Long Pond is now inundated in the vicinity of the Long Pond Sugar Factory. Operators of small vehicles are being advised to use the alternative route through Daniel Town. Also in Trelawny, the road from Martha Brae to Kinloss is partially blocked by washed down silt and debris, between mile posts four and six. In St. Mary, the road from Trinity to Little Bay is partially blocked by a landslide and fallen trees. In Portland, the corridor from Breastworks to Windsor in the vicinity of Riverview is now blocked by a landslide. The NWA is advising motorists to exercise caution while travelling through the affected communities. |
