The Opposition People's National Party (PNP) has come out swinging at Prime Minister Bruce Golding over the non-renewal of the contract of Earl Samuels, former Managing Director of the National Housing Trust (NHT).

In an interview on Saturday, PNP Chairman Robert Pickersgill said the Prime Minister's explanation for Mr. Samuels' dismissal is rife with half truths and misrepresentations.

He concludes that this decision was politically motivated.

"Based on the blatant practice of victimization conducted by the Jamaican Labour Party since it assumed offence, we're of the firm view that this was politically motivated. We're reminded of the Prime Minister's summary dismissal of the members of the Public Service Commission when they refused to do his bidding in respect of the appointment of the Solicitor General.

"The non-renewal of Mr. Samuels' contract was partisans and politically motivated," said Mr. Pickersgill.

He defended his party's by adding that Mr. Samuels' contract was not renewed despite him doing a credible job as Managing Director of the NHT as attested to by the Trust's Chairman, Howard Mitchell.

"We find it strange that the Golding administration, at a time when there's a recognized shortage of managerial skills, refused to renew the contract of an individual who has performed and continues to perform creditably. The only rational conclusion that can be drawn is that other factors were involved in what is tantamount to a dismissal of the Trust's Managing Director," Mr. Pickersgill said.
