Nurses wage dispute could be close to a settlement PDF Print
Friday, 20 November 2009
Image The Ministry of Labour has hinted that the current negotiations involving the Nurses Association of Jamaica (NAJ) are inching closer to a settlement.

Thursday night there were signs that the dispute was likely to erupt again with the nurses demanding the intervention of the Minister of Finance Audley Shaw and Health Minister Ruddy Spencer.

Over the past two weeks, representatives of the NAJ and negotiators from the Labour Ministry have been meeting to discuss the Association's wage claim.

The parties went back to the Ministry for another attempt at brokering an agreement on a long standing stalemate over wages and reclassification.

Labour Minister Pearnel Charles told RJR News that he feels relieved that some progress was made during Friday's talks.

"A meeting was held today to continue the discussion on the terms and conditions of employment. Progress was made and the parties are to return to the Ministry of Labour next Friday in which we hope to conclude the discussion," Mr. Charles said.
