Insurance has responded to concerns raised by the National Workers Union (NWU)
that it is approaching workers to ask that they opt for voluntary redundancy. In an emailed response on Thursday, the insurance company says given the impact of the economic environment on its business and with the continued refinement of its internal processes, and improved technology, it is assessing the level of resources employed by the company. However, Vice President of Human Resources Andre Latty, says the Company has not formally decided to proceed with a redundancy exercise. Mr. Latty says it is in the early stages of the assessment and as such unable to indicate if any positions will be made redundant. The Human Resource Manager says if the Company decides to make positions redundant voluntary redundancy will be one option. Mr. Latty also said due to the early stages of the assessment the union has not been engaged. He stressed that since there has not been any decision to pursue implementation of a redundancy process then there is no identified need to ask the Ministry to intervene. However he said the Ministry has been updated on the status of the process to date as a result of what it called the premature disclosure. Thursday night the NWU's Deputy Supervisor, Navel Clarke told RJR News it had written to the Labour Ministry to voice its concerns that its members were being approached without the union being notified. |
