After years of failing to overtake more powerful and connected cities seeking Olympic bids, Toronto, Canada has been awarded the 2015 Pan American Games on a first ballot.

Toronto which lost two Olympic and two Commonwealth Games bids, secured 33 votes to beat Lima, Peru which receive 11 and Bogota, Colombia with 7 votes.

Mike Fennel, representative of Jamaica's Olympic Committee told RJR Sports that Toronto's bid was the best.

"Their bid was far superior in technical terms and in fact if not for sports politics, they would have won by a larger margin. There's no question at all that when you match up what they were offering in term of facilities, the site of the village and in so many other areas, they were far superior to the rest.

"From our point of view3, one of the most convenient thing is the air linkage, in other words, it's one stop to go to Toronto," said Fennell.
