A meeting is to be held
this week by the Ministry of Finance in a bid to stave off possible disruption
in the country's fire service. It will discuss outstanding matters regarding the payment of allowances to employees of the Jamaica Fire Brigade. Helene Davis-White, President of the Jamaica Association of Local Government Officers told RJR News that the meeting will determine whether there is continued normality in the fire service. "We have a meeting arranged with Senator Arthur Williams, State Minister responsible for the public service in the Finance and Public Service Ministry at which point we expect that we will be finalizing and signing off on the (allowances). We wait that meeting because the firefighter want to finalize that aspect of the 2008/2010 negotiations," she said. |
