The decision comes in the aftermath of Wednesday night's fatal shooting of four men at the club, including the operator Ricardo "Bully" Thomas and his brother Kirk Thomas. Wednesday's incident follows a fatal shooting at the club last March, during the popular British Link-Up Dance. Superintendent Marlon Nesbeth, Commanding Officer for the St. Catherine South Police Division told RJR News that given the sequence of events which have occurred at the Club since last year, specific attention will also be paid to the operators and owners. "One would have to look at it from different angles to include who would be the new, if there is, owner/manager of that particular premises as there's a stigma attached to it," he said. Meanwhile, Superintendent Nesbeth has dispelled reports that there was a dance in progress when gunmen opened fire at a group of men at the club Wednesday night. He said the police have not issued any permits for any public events at La Roose since last March's fatal shooting of a man during the popular British Link-Up dance. Council can't just close down La Roose - Hinds And amidst the shooting
incidents, residents in the Portmore have been calling for La Roose to be
closed. However, Mayor of Portmore Keith Hinds says he does not see an imminent closure of the establishment. According to him, while the Portmore Municipal Council is concerned about the number of violent incidents which have occurred at the club over the last year, it is awaiting the outcome of investigations by the police before making any decisions. "There might be a myriad of reason why the shooting took place at that location so it would be difficult for us to just say two shootings (have occurred) so let's lock it down. There has to reasons in law us not to grant a place of amusement licence. "So, I would have to concern myself with the police and get some guidance from them as to the way forward," said Mayor Hinds. |
