Senators were forced to take a break from the business of
the House on Friday morning after the air conditioning unit gave out. Leader of Government Business Dorothy Lightbourne had just opened the debate on amendments to the Factories Act, when she advised that fans would have to be brought into the chamber, because the air conditioning unit was not working. Miss Lightbourne asked for the Senate to take a ten minute adjournment to allow the orderlies to take in the fans. Senators could be seen making attempts to cool themselves with makeshift fans, as the orderlies positioned the fans during the break. Other senators took the opportunity to leave the chamber for a well needed break. The senate has since resumed its sitting. For several years, debate has swirled about the need for renovations to be made to the building. A proposal has been made to acquire land across from and around Gordon House to expand the building. |
