Employees of the
National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) are expected to remain on the
job despite Friday's expiration of a seven day ultimatum for the management to
address outstanding wage issues.drivers, sidemen and sweepers were restive over the slow pace of negotiations for improved wages and fringe benefits. However, following meetings with officials of the Local Government Department on Thursday, UAWU Negotiating Officer, Aston Johnson, said the decision was made to withdraw the ultimatum. He said the Local Government officials signalled that they will be moving speedily to complete negotiations for a new wage and fringe benefits contract. "They have sent off the claim for costing and they have given us word that by (next) Tuesday, they will give us some kind of solid date to meet to negotiate and to have some semblance of an agreement," said Mr. Johnson. |
