Police Commissioner Rear Admiral Hardley Lewin says the
police has been reaping success in its ongoing battle against the guns for
drugs trade between Jamaica
and Haiti. At a media briefing on Thursday morning, Mr. Lewin expressed pleasure that the police, working in tandem with a United Nations team and the Haitian national police, have been able to disrupt the flow of illicit items between the two countries. Currently, five JCF members are resident in Haiti. The Commissioner added that the JCF is seeking to increase the complement of officers stationed in Haiti. "We have had success in disrupting the trade here, that is the drugs to move out and they have been reaping success over there, they have apprehended Jamaican vessels, Jamaicans, Haitians and drugs moving into Haiti and we are very pleased with the development on that side, "We are now seeking to double the number of officers that we have stationed with the UN group in Haiti. We are working on both ends of the problem and we are quite pleased with the trends and we are ramping that up," the Commissioner said. |
