Finance Minister Audley Shaw has responded to mounting
concerns about the possibility of Jamaica re-entering a borrowing
relationship with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).In Parliament on Tuesday, Mr. Shaw said the government has not submitted any letter of intent to the multilateral organization. He noted however that he will be meeting with IMF officials next week and has assured Parliament that it will be fully briefed on all the parameters surrounding the discussions. Mr. Shaw also assured the House that there is no need to worry about the conditionals that will be imposed by the IMF as Jamaica has already put in place a system that protects it. He also noted that before the country sought funding from other multinationals it had to secure a letter from the IMF saying that Jamaica was already in good standing. |
