Bunting posts more comments on Facebook PDF Print
Thursday, 18 June 2009
ImageNearly two days after posting attention-grabbing quotes on his Facebook Page, Peter Bunting, General Secretary of the Opposition People's National Party (PNP) has finally responded to the furore he has created.

Mr. Bunting caused a stir Wednesday when he posted the Albert Einstein quotation: "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results."

His spin came in a fresh posting on his Facebook page Thursday afternoon.

He expressed surprise at the attention given to his postings which he has denied were aimed at PNP Leader Portia Simpson Miller.

Portia Simpson Miller, PNP Leader.Mr. Bunting admitted that several posts which followed his initial comment on Tuesday targeted Mrs Simpson Miller and were disrespectful and offensive to her.

He sought to disassociate himself from those remarks.

However, Mr. Bunting said he appreciated many of the responses arguing that he welcomed different ideas and varying opinions should contend.

Meanwhile some party insiders are questioning the stewardship of the General Secretary.

They claim that the PNP Secretariat continues to drift, with the Governing Jamaica Labour Party out-foxing the once-vaunted PNP machinery in enumeration and other electoral matters.

Some also suggest his performance as the party's shadow Spokesman on National Security has been less than stellar.

Peter Buntin, PNP General Secretary.According to them, Mr. Bunting has been silent on a number of recent issues such as the recent tragedy at the Armadale Juvenile Correctional Centre in St. Ann and the recent slaying of two policemen.

One senior figure close to the Party President said in a comment on FaceBook "Consensus forging is everyone's responsibility and especially when it is a requirement of the job".

The Simpson Miller aide added that "There is also a concept in democracy that says when the decision has been taken everyone falls in line, even if you disagree with the decision."

And in a pointed reference to Mr. Bunting, the respondent declared "Some jobs do not come with the luxury of independence".

The furore over Mr. Bunting's comments emerged in the wake of PNP's crushing defeat in North East St Catherine by-election on Tuesday.
