The matter involving 23-year old entertainer Okefe Aaron,
more popularly known as "Laden", was rescheduled when it was mention in the Santa
Cruz Resident Magistrate's Court in St. Elizabeth Tuesday morning.Laden, who is from Cheapside in the parish, appeared in court to answer to charges of disorderly conduct and using indecent language to the police. He initially pleaded guilty to the charges when they were read out Tuesday morning but following consultations with his attorney, he changed his plea to not guilty. The judge then set a Thursday, June 11 mention date. The case stems from an incident in which Laden reportedly clashed with members of the police. It is reported that late Wednesday, May 27, a police Sergeant was chiding a teenager who was wearing the uniform of the BB Coke High School, while in the company of a group of men, when Laden allegedly intervened and verbally abused the cop. He said the girl was his sister and the men were his friends. He was taken into custody and charged. Laden came to attention in 2006 in the popular Digicel Rising Stars competition and since then, he has embarked on a creditable singing career churning out hits such as the hugely popular "Time to Shine." |
